The Ornithologist as a Pornographer- Helen Vitoria

The ornithologist as a pornographer

A translucent wing, luminous. They bring me a young Hummingbird.

I want a seasoned bird, well-versed, one who hit the windshield a few times,

came face to face with a Great Horned Owl & lived to tell about it.

Bring me a screamer, hot & ready, mud-dusted & still wet.

I paint her Red. Just what this Lark deserves.

Think, like this, look, right into the camera. Today, I want to be a cartographer.

I want stick pins, wings spread, legs poised on a growl. A dart on every angle.

When she sings, I move in closer, call her, Cherry.
